Charles Russell Reed, 74, of Vandalia, died peacefully at home of an extended illness early Saturday morning, Feb. 22, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Charles was born Dec. 11, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Penn. to Charles and Florence (Freeby) Reed. His parents and a sister, Virginia Noe, preceded him in death.

Charles attended Indiana University, leaving to work at the Rayette Manufacturing Company in New Jersey, and then went to Georgia to become a chief engineer and innovator in custom aerosol packaging. As a leader in his field, he founded the Accra-Pac Company in Elkhart, Ind. He later moved to Colorado where he bought and renovated the historic Doc Holiday’s Tavern in Glenwood Springs. He later returned to Elkhart, where he worked as an engineer and sales consultant for several manufacturing companies.

Chuck will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sally Reed of Vandalia; two daughters, Kellie Obermiller, Kim Case; two sons, Chad Reed, Chris Stump; one step-daughter, Ashley Taylor; two step-sons, Steve Aurand, Chuck Aurand; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two sisters, Cleota Reed and Sherry Barbaro; and one brother-in-law, Nick Noe.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20943 County Road 6 (corner of County Road 19), Bristol, Ind., with Pastor Karen Strietelmeier officiating.
