Lake Michigan College is hosting its 10th annual Steven C. Silcox Spring Training 5K/10K Run and 5K Walk on Saturday, April 12.

The race takes place on the LMC Napier Avenue Campus and combines open road and trail racing. The race is open to the public. The first 100 participants who register before March 28 will receive a special 10 year anniversary run shirt.

Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. at the flag pole plaza in front of the Administration Building. The race begins at 9 a.m. A chip timing system will be used at the race and chips will be issued at registration.

Participants will be divided into age categories using 5-year age brackets. All participants in the race will receive a tee-shirt and the top finisher in each age group will receive a medal. The overall male and female winners will receive a trophy and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Groups of five or more walkers or runners may also compete as a team. All team members must participate in the same distance. Those participating in the team competition will still appear in the regular overall results and are eligible for age group prizes. The winning team will receive a trophy.

The fee for all participants is $20 if paid before April 1, and $25 after April 1 and on race day. Registration forms can be picked up at several local businesses, including South Shore Health and Racquet Club, and YMCA locations in St. Joseph and Niles. The registration form can also be found at http://www.lakemichigancollege.edu/race.
