The fourth-ranked (Class C) Brandywine girls basketball team claimed a significant 56-38 win over Cassopolis on Thursday.

With the victory, the Bobcats ended their regular season with an 18-0 record and kept their Lakeland Conference winning streak intact. Brandywine has now won 53 straight league games.

“I’m really proud of my team,” said Brandywine coach Josh Hood. “We lost Brooke Smith and Tia (Hullinger) to injuries at the beginning of the season. A lot of people thought this was the year that we would come back down. It says a lot about the kids in our program to again go undefeated and to win another (conference) championship.”

Michaela Hartline scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Bobcats. Makenna Hartline added nine points and 12 rebounds. Tammy Lee had nine steals.

Cassopolis, which fell to 6-12, turned the ball over 44 times, while Brandywine committed 26 turnovers. The Bobcats finished with nine 3-pointers, which helped them overcome 28-percent (17-of-60) shooting.

“It wasn’t one of our better efforts of the season,” Hood said. “We did too much fouling, but give Cass a lot of credit. Their guards were very fast tonight. We had a lot of careless turnovers and missed a lot of lay-ups.”

Kortenei Suggs scored 13 points to lead Cassopolis, which lost for the third time this year against Brandywine. In the previous games, the Bobcats won, 65-15 and 46-24,
