Niles rally comes up a bit short

PORTAGE — Visiting Niles came up a bit short against Portage Northern in Big 16 West Division boys basketball action Friday night.

The Vikings (6-9) trailed the Huskies 50-40 heading into the final eight minutes. Neither team could mount much offense and Portage Northern came away with a 59-56 win.

The Vikings actually led 20-19 after one quarter, but trailed 35-31 at halftime.

The Vikings were led by Tate Brawley’s 15 points and eight rebounds. Brawley missed Wednesday’s game against St. Joseph after sustaining a broken nose in the previous contest.

Niles also got 14 points from Gabe Stokes and 12 points from Gavin Rasler.

The Huskies’ Adam Ashbaugh scored a game-high 21 points.
