Dowagiac juniors Aubrey Huston and Tristan Howard are ready for the Division 3 Individual Regional Tournament Saturday at Lake Odessa-Lakewood High School.

The goal is simple: Win two matches before you lose two and you are qualified for the state finals Feb. 27 through March 1 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Huston, who finished fourth at the district last week, will open up against Lake Odessa’s Jordan Bennett. Huston is 23-20 on the year, while Bennett is 41-1.

Also in his half of the bracket are Frederick Waller of Muskegon Orchard View (31-9) and Deandre Juarez of South Haven (24-13).

Howard (33-4) won his second straight district championship last Saturday.

The Dowagiac heavyweight will open the regional against Ross Hulick (20-10) of Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

Also in his half of the bracket are Hunter Shaw (29-7) of Whitehall and Nate Merrill (23-20) of South Haven.

“Well as you know the competition get harder the further you go,” Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. “Tristan coming in as a one seed from the district give him a good chance to move on. Aubrey has a little more of a difficult road to get out, but he did beat the No. 2 kid from our district during the season and it could come down to the match for him to get out. Either way it shakes out both wrestlers had a good year.”
