Four injured in two-vehicle crash on Niles-Buchanan Road

Two children and two adults were sent to the hospital for minor injuries following a two-vehicle accident in Niles Twp. this morning.

According to a release from the Michigan State Police, troopers responded to the accident on Niles Buchanan Road near US 31 at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Doris Vliek, 64, of Buchanan, was traveling eastbound on Niles-Buchanan Road and drove left of the center line, striking the second vehicle, driven by Jason Shorts, 48, of Niles, head-on.

Two children, Brandi Lefevre, 11, and Andrew Lefevre, 8, were in the backseat of Vliek’s vehicle at the time of the crash.

All four individuals were wearing seat belts and transported to Lakeland Hospital-Niles by SMCAS ambulance for minor injuries.

The main factor in the crash is believed to be low visibility due to blowing snow.

Alochol was not a factor in the accident.

The Michigan State Police was assisted at the scene by the Buchanan Police Department, Niles Twp. Fire Department and SMCAS Ambulance.
