Councilman suggests restricting parking hours in Niles

A Niles City Council member has asked the city administrator to look into the possibility of making it so vehicles can’t be parked on city streets during certain hours of the day.

Councilman Scott Clark said during Monday’s regular meeting he thinks it might be beneficial to keep people from parking there between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

“I think it would be a lot safer (for city workers, public safety personnel)…,” he said. “They’d get the roads cleaner and faster.”

Clark said the city of Buchanan places similar restrictions on parking. He asked Ric Huff to see if it would be a good idea for Niles. Huff said he would.

The discussion came after a member of the public and multiple council members praised city workers for how they cleaned up the streets after the recent snowstorm.
