Councilman suggests restricting parking hours in Niles

Published 7:24pm Monday, January 13, 2014

A Niles City Council member has asked the city administrator to look into the possibility of making it so vehicles can’t be parked on city streets during certain hours of the day.

Councilman Scott Clark said during Monday’s regular meeting he thinks it might be beneficial to keep people from parking there between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

“I think it would be a lot safer (for city workers, public safety personnel)…,” he said. “They’d get the roads cleaner and faster.”

Clark said the city of Buchanan places similar restrictions on parking. He asked Ric Huff to see if it would be a good idea for Niles. Huff said he would.

The discussion came after a member of the public and multiple council members praised city workers for how they cleaned up the streets after the recent snowstorm.

Really? Just declare a snow emergency if you want to clean the streets. This law/ordinance was used almost every year in the 1980′s.

Thats a great Idea, how about mandating everybody wear those cloth booties like they wear at the hospital, and all should rub a Lint roller on their clothes, and Anyone with ciggarettes and matches be Fined a couple of thousand bucks So none of the Smell or ashes would be found.
We could then have Marble lined Streets and sidewalks.
that only needs mopping and buffing.

We Could beautify Downtown Niles, and have pictures in
    All kinds of Magazines.
BUT….THEN….We would have to restrict “Certain People”
    from Going downtown.
Maybe they might be welcome in the Townships, or Roseland.
Why we could get a drive to get Coupons for those Unfortunate
“Certain People” Like ten (10) to Twenty (20) percent off to shop
Maybe Encourage them to Offer those “Certain people” to shop
Elswhere with that Senior, and Ugly Discount, as they Suffer
    Enough as it it.
