Niles Service League to hold annual pancake breakfast

A number of traditions have formed over the 10 years that Niles has hosted the Hunter Ice Festival. The Niles Service League is hard at work preparing their contribution to the festivities, its annual pancake breakfast.

The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Bell Building, located at 305 Sycamore St. in Niles. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any Niles Service League member, or at the door for $5 per person.

“All of the money goes toward helping local kids with items that they need, such as hats, boots, clothes, dentist and doctor appointments. We also give out scholarships and camperships for students who cannot afford to go to various summer camps,” said Cindy Klingerman, chair of this year’s pancake breakfast, who is also circulation manager at Leader Publications.

Klingerman said at least 80 people attended last year’s pancake breakfast to support area youth.

“This year to raise extra money, we’re raffling a 23-inch flat-screen television, donated by Sony,” she said.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event for $5 each. Those unable to attend the breakfast can also purchase raffle tickets from Service League members, or message the group’s facebook page (facebook.com/niles.service.league) to request tickets. Klingerman said the Service League will draw the winning ticket at noon on the day of the breakfast, but winners need not be present to win.

Community members unable to attend the pancake breakfast will have more opportunities to contribute to the organization’s efforts in the near future.

The Service League will host a trivia night at the Bell Building on Feb. 22.

“We will also be looking for new members to join us for the 2014-2015 school year,” Klingerman said. Those interested in joining the group can contact members of the organization by sending

a message to their Facebook page.
