1-03EvansRichard Uriah Evans, 77, of Jones, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at his residence.

Richard was born July 22, 1936, in Vandalia, Mich., to Homer and Glendora (Vaughn) Evans. He married Avis Gail Gunterman on Oct. 23, 1965, in Cassopolis, Mich.

She preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1988. He was also preceded by his parents; three sisters, Marjorie Green, Leona Brown, and Betty Lou Lawson; and one brother, Hilbert “Todd” Evans.

The Reverend Evans was an ordained minister for more than 50 years. He owned Richard’s Body Shop in Jones. He had a great love for cars, especially Lincolns.

The Rev. Evans will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Charles) Hunt of Cassopolis; five grandchildren, Candace (Chadd) Lee of Guam, Kristin Curtis of Buchanan, Charles Hunt, Jr., Fonzo Hunt and Tyler Hunt, all of Cassopolis; one great-granddaughter, Aria Curtis; three brothers, Anthony (Sue) Evans and Yvonne (Marilyn) Evans, both of Vandalia, and Bertrand (Sheila) Evans of Cassopolis; and a host of nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, with the Reverend Martha Cooper officiating. The Rev. Evans will be laid to rest in Bogue Street Memory Garden, Vandalia.

The family prefers contributions in the Rev. Evans’ name to be made to Wagner Family Funerals to help defray expenses.
