Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve has been awarded $1,000 in 1st Source Bank’s 150 Years $150,000 Cheers campaign.

To honor its 150th anniversary, 1st Source Bank invited the community to help give away money to deserving local not-for-profit organizations. A total of 150 $1,000 donations, plus two $15,000 donations were awarded by 1st Source Bank in celebration of its 150 years of service to Indiana and Michigan residents and businesses. Nomination deadline was Nov. 30, and $1,000 recipients were selected and announced weekly through Dec. 9. The two $15,000 recipients were selected from all entries received.

Charitable recipients were selected based on the quality and quantity of entries received. Decisions on awarding of the donations were made by employees of 1st Source Bank and members of the 1st Source Foundation Board of Directors.

Not only does 1st Source Bank have a milestone anniversary, Fernwood has an upcoming anniversary celebration as well. In 2014, Fernwood will celebrate 50 years of bringing thousands of individuals closer to nature, deepening their connection and appreciation of the natural world. Fernwood works each day to inspire, to enrich, and to educate in new and innovative ways.

“The generous $1000 award from 1st Source Bank will help further Fernwood’s youth education programs,” said Carol Line, Fernwood’s executive director. “We thank all friends of Fernwood for their thoughtful letters of nomination, and we thank 1st Source Bank for selecting Fernwood for this award.”
