Dowagiac explodes in second quarter to remain undefeated

A 30-point second quarter explosion kept the Dowagiac boys basketball team undefeated Tuesday night.

Trailing 20-13 after the opening eight minutes, the Chieftains (2-0) caught fire from the perimeter and poured in 30 points, which included five of its game-high 11 3-pointers.

Tevin Fowlkes led the charge off the bench with 10 points in the quarter, while Kyle Solloway, playing in his first game of the season, scored eight of his game-high 31 points.

Dowagiac also got seven points from Brandon Winchester-Jones in the second quarter as the Chieftains opened up a 43-35 advantage.

Both teams put on an offensive display in the second half combining for 74 points. Dowagiac held a slim 38-36 advantage in the second half scoring.

Beside Solloway’s output, the Chieftains also got 21 points from Winchester Jones and 14 points from Fowlkes.

Solomon Barwegen led Vicksburg with 29 points. P.J. Callahan added 12.
