More than 700 people visited Real Life Church’s first live nativity scene last year.

Pastor Jared Eckerley hopes for another good turnout as the event returns to the Niles-Buchanan YMCA from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22.

“It was a great time last year with so many people coming together,” said Eckerley. “And that’s part of what the event is about — bringing people together for something that is important to remember.”

The event will take place in the YMCA’s parking lot. Eckerley said their goal is to recreate Bethlehem to the best of their abilities. The live nativity scene will feature actors playing Mary, Joseph, wise men and Roman soldiers. There will also be live animals, including goats, sheep, donkeys and camels.

“The idea is to have people stop for a moment and realize the real reason for the season,” Eckerley said. “We get so busy this time of year that it can be easy to forget what this time of year is all about.”

Visitors will be treated to hot chocolate and warming centers.

The event is free and sponsored by Real Life Church, which meets Sunday mornings in the YMCA gymnasium.

The church focuses on following Jesus and helping others grow and develop their relationship with Jesus.
