A 24-year-old Dowagiac man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into more than a dozen homes in the Twin Lakes area, north of Dowagiac.

Eric Szymonski was arraigned Wednesday on the charges of second-degree home invasion and breaking and entering a building, according to the Cass County Prosecutor’s office.

Second-degree home invasion carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, while breaking and entering carries a maximum of 10 years.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Szymonski is responsible for a series of 14 late-night break-ins of sheds, garages and homes from Dec. 1-4. Items stolen include flat screen televisions and gas cans.

Deputies patrolling the area of the burglaries Monday night located Szymonski walking in the area. Police said Szymonski at that time had a felony arrest warrant for an unrelated charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

Szymonski is lodged at the Cass County Jail on $30,000 bond related to the burglary charges.

No property has been recovered and the burglary cases continue to be under investigation.
