Peter Ben Logalbo, 84, of Chapel Hill, NC

Peter Ben Logalbo 84, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, went to be with his heavenly father on Nov. 27, 2013.

He was born in Chicago, Ill. on Sept. 10, 1929, the son of Joseph and Frances (Sottile) Logalbo, who both preceded him in death. Peter married Nada Jean Mary Conroy, who survives, in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 5, 1949. “Jean” is the mother of his four children and currently lives in Niles.

In 1952 Pete and Jean came to Niles and together opened Pete’s Patio on Lake Street (now BJ Pub). They later opened a second restaurant on N. Fifth Street in Niles and ran both places for five years. Pete and Jean worked side by side and this was a popular place for the best pizza and Italian beef sandwiches. Pete made pizzas in the window and Jean took care of waiting on the many customers. Pete touched many lives with his generosity and always had a warm welcome for his customers and friends. Pete continued to operate Pete’s Patio for 54 years before retiring to North Carolina.

Pete was an avid Bears, Notre Dame and Cubs fan.

Pete was a supporter of FOP Lodge, Babe Ruth and Niles High School athletics. He was a member of the Niles Chamber of Commerce and the Elks. He received many lifetime achievement awards including Business Man of The Year. Pete was a member of Orchard Hills, Indian Lake and Signal Point golf courses. Pete was a member of the Men’s Equestrian Team at Laughing Place Stables. Pete loved to throw a good party with family and friends and especially loved hosting his famous cookouts.

Pete Loved to work in the yard and garden, he enjoyed the sun, water and boating. He enjoyed the game of golf in his earlier days and was an accomplished equestrian rider. He enjoyed sharing his love of horses with his daughters.

Pete is survived by former wife Linda D. Kujawa. Pete has one sister, Bernice Romano of Chicago, Ill. He leaves four daughters to cherish their precious memories: Linda L. and Gary W. Karnes of Chapel Hill, NC. Shirley A. and Larry Townsend of Niles, Cynthia S. Logalbo of Chapel Hill, NC., Mary Jo and Sam Udell of Niles; grandchildren Peter A. Karnes, Samara Knepp, Anthony M. Udell and Dominic P. Udell.

His loving, devoted daughter, Cynthia S. Logalbo, tirelessly cared for her father the last four years of his life. Pete leaves behind a special friend, “Buddy,” his dog who showed his companionship and loyalty in his last days.
