Downtown Niles merchants are organizing a cookie walk this weekend to help raise money for Niles resident Lindsey Cloutier’s fight against leukemia.

The event will take place beginning at 10 a.m. next to Majerek’s in downtown Niles.

Organizers are asking for large coffee cans for participants to fill up with cookies. Anyone with extra cans should bring them to Tina Newman at Bella’s Gifts and Memories as soon as possible.

Organizers also need cookies and are requesting three dozen or more in a gift box. Cookies can be dropped of at Bella’s Gifts and Memories after 11 a.m. Friday.

All proceeds will support Cloutier as she continues her fight against leukemia.

Cloutier, an employee of Leader Publications, was diagnosed in October with a rare form of leukemia. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment in Chicago in an effort to get the disease into remission and her body ready for a transplant.

At 30 years old Cloutier has battled leukemia three times, including at ages 16 and 19. She celebrated 10 years of remission on Aug. 27, but was diagnosed with leukemia two weeks later.
