Edwardsburg senior Teryn Williams is officially a Laker.

Williams, a four-year starter at shortstop for the Eddies, signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Lake Superior State University earlier this month.

“I chose Lake Superior State University for a number of reasons. The feel in Sault St. Marie is unlike any other university. Even though it is six and a half hours away, it feels more like home than anywhere else,” Williams said.

In addition to the three seasons she has already played at Edwardsburg, Williams has participated in travel softball leagues for seven years as part of Michiana Mystique and Great Lakes Lightning. She was chosen as a first team all-conference member last year.

As part of her sign-on agreement, Williams will receive both athletic and academic scholarships. She plans to major in sports management and possibly minor in athletic training.

Williams said of all the reasons she’s excited to attend LSSU, she most looks forward to working with her coach, Lori Shimasaki, who is currently coaching her fourth season at Lake Superior State.

“The campus is absolutely beautiful, the team is very family-oriented, and my coach is amazing. She is very caring and treats her team as if they are her family. It is very hard to find a college coach who is like that and it makes the experience so much better. I was also considering Northwood, Aquinas, Saginaw Valley, and Alma but I kept coming back to LSSU,” she said. “I am looking forward to my next four years at Lake Superior State University.”
