Dowagiac drops second straight

OTSEGO — The Dowagiac football team will limp into the post season after dropping its second straight game Friday night.

The Chieftains, who started out the season 6-1, who were defeated by Edwardsburg the previous week, fell to host Otsego 35-20 in the regular season final for both schools.

The Bulldogs, who needed a win to qualify for the playoffs, outscored Dowagiac (6-3) 21-7 in the pivotal second quarter.

The Chieftains, who finished with 335 yards of total offense, including 201 yards through the air, got three touchdowns from Brandon Hatch. Hatch scored on runs of 2, 1 and 7 yards.

Hatch finished with 99 yards rushing. Quarterback Austin Broda was 11-of-16 for 201 yards and an interception.

Otsego finished with 334 yards of total offense, of which, 309 came on the ground. Bulldogs’ quarterback Maxx Kirgens ran for 149 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns.
