Niles tennis team named Academic All-State

The Niles tennis team has earned Division 3 Academic All-State from the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association.

There are 77 schools in Division 3. Niles was one of 10 schools to earn Academic All State.

The other schools were Ada Forest Hills Eastern, Allen Park Cabrini, Armada, Cadillac, Grosse Ile, Hamilton, Jackson Northwest, Notre Dame Prep and Trenton.

 

State tennis finals

The Brandywine tennis team finished tied for 16th in the Division 4 finals held at Grand Blanc and Holly last weekend.

The Bobcats had three points.

Ann Arbor Greenhills won yet another state title with 33 points. Grand Rapids West Catholic was second with 24 points.

The title was the sixth for Greenhills.

Brandywine’s Chance Smith won its opening round match against Sarge Harvey of Saginaw Nouvel 6-0 and 6-3. He lost in the second round to No. 1 seed Teddy Oosterbaan of Kalamazoo Hackett 6-0 and 6-2.

Tanner Bourdon was also a first round winner. He defeated Kevin Fresorger of Frankenmuth 6-3 and 6-1. In the second round he lost to No. 4 seed Jack Kromarkik of Traverse City St. Francis 6-1 and 6-0.

The Bobcats earned their third point at No. 4 doubles where Mark Conrad and Austin Balos defeated Aiden Flynn and Alex Rohr of Kalamazoo Hackett 6-1 and 6-1. In the second round they lost to top-seeded Jackson Benning and Davey Sekhon of University Liggett 6-0 and 6-2.
