Cooper has 29 assists in Owens Tech victory

TOLEDO — Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, MI) closed out the third and fourth sets with kills to help the Owens Tech Express women’s volleyball team defeat NJCAA D-III No. 10 Lorain County 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13 Wednesday night.

After Lorain County had tied the match up at a set apiece, Kipp produced back-to-back kills to close out the third set. Then, she had the match-winning kill in the fourth set.

Kenzie Kleinhenz (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) led the Express in kills with a season-high 14, while Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) added 12. Kipp also had double-digit kills (10). The previous season-high for Kleinhenz was 11, which she achieved four times.

Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles) led the team in assists with 29, while Wirick added 20.

Lisa Urbanski (Notre Dame Academy/Toledo, Ohio) led the team with 20 digs. She eclipsed 700 digs on the season tonight, and has 714 total. Additionally, Urbanski is third in career kills with 1,667. She is 72 digs away from moving into second place (Ashley Hill).

Kennedy Geyman (Jefferson/Monroe, Mich.) led the team with four aces, while Jazmine Thomas (Lima Senior/Lima, Ohio) had a team-high eight blocks. Kleinhenz added five blocks.

The Express improved to 18-18 overall with the win, and they have now won seven of their past nine matches. Also, with the win Wednesday, the Express improved to 8-3 in OCCAC play.

They will host Cincinnati State Technical and Community College Friday at 6 p.m. in the SHAC. It is their final regular season home match of the season.
