The Niles Haunted House Scream Park welcomed visitor number 1.5 million on Sunday.

Christina Rhebergen, of the Scream Park, said the count is based on how many people have entered one of its interior haunted houses in the past 17 years.

During that time, the Scream Park, a non-profit community project, has raised nearly $1.3 million for other non-profits and charities both local and national.

Last year, the Scream Park generated more than $58,000 for good causes, including scholarships for local students and donations for local scout troops.

The 1.5 millionth visitor was Monique Scofield, of New Carlisle, Ind. She told park officials she has been visiting the Scream Park since around 1989 when the Haunted House was located at Bell Road. Scofield received a “ghost pack” that included several pieces of Scream Park memorabilia.

The park welcomed its 1.4 millionth interior visitor last year.

Rhebergen said the park had good attendance in September, but hasn’t broken any records yet in October. The busiest time of the season, she said, is typically the weekend before and week of Halloween.

“We still have our biggest nights yet to come,” she said.

The Scream Park is open Friday through Sunday until Nov. 2. It is also open on Thursday, Oct. 31.

It is located on Mayflower Road, south of Niles-Buchanan Road just off Exit 5 of the US 31 Bypass. For more information visit the Scream Park website at www.haunted.org or call (269) 687-3327.
