MATTAWAN – The hope of ending a 10-year stretch of losing seasons was dashed by host Mattawan Friday night.

The Niles (2-5) football team had hoped to run the table and get its first winning season since 2003, but the Wildcats had other ideas.

Mattawan grounded out 377 yards and handed the Vikings a 40-29 setback.

Darek Bullock-Mills had another big night throwing the ball for Niles as he was 17-of-27 for 215 yards and a 35-yard touchdown pass to Ra’Quon Glenn.

Mills also ran for a pair of 3-yard scores and finished the night with 54 yards rushing.

Niles’ other touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Sean Craig.

Glenn finished the night with five catches for 88 yards.
