Joan C. Gaideski, 78, of Dowagiac, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 with her family at her side.
Joan was born in Lansing, Mich. to the late Harold D. and Thelma (Allen) Moore. She was one of four girls growing up in the Moore household.
After graduating from high school Joan wed the love of her life, Edward “Eddie” Gaideski, at a beautiful ceremony in Battle Creek, Mich. on July 16, 1955. Together they had three children. Joan went to work for the Dowagiac School System and then earned her bachelor’s degree in business. After 18 years there she retired and started her own secretarial business where she did work for United Way and ended her career at Lake Michigan College.Joan could never sit idle; she was always outside doing something. She was a member of the Dowagiac Garden Club and was active until recently, even serving as a past officer. She loved her Monday Night Running Club that she and Eddie joined and she even hiked the Grand Canyon. When she wasn’t outdoors gardening or golfing, Joan could be found playing Bridge, attending aerobics or spending time with one of her many grandchildren or great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Eddie in 2009.
Joan is survived by her children Jody (Larry) Fox of Dowagiac, Jeff (Valerie) Gaideski of Dowagiac and Allen Gaideski of Hopkins, Mich.; grandchildren Andrea (Matthew) Katich of Rochester, Mich., Abby Allsop of Chicago, Ill., Brian Gaideski of Holland, Michigan and Ginny (Greg) Hodgson of Niles; five great grandchildren; siblings Joyce (David) Schultz of Battle Creek, Mich., Nancy Gallant of Battle Creek and Micki (Dan) McCormick of Fripp Island, South Carolina and a host of great friends.

A time of visitation will be held on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with a memorial service to honor Joan’s life beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel.
