Owens Tech sweeps Edison CC on the road

Piqua, OH — Jazmine Thomas had 14 kills and five blocks to lead the Owens Tech Express volleyball team past Edison Community College 25-15, 25-13, 28-26 on the road Friday night.

Both of those totals were team-highs, while the 14 kills marked a season-high for Thomas. It was her second match this year with at least a double figure kill total. It was also her ninth match with at least five kills.

Lisa Urbanski had team-highs in aces (3) and digs (25). She has recorded a double-figure dig total in all but two matches this season. It also marked her eighth match with at least 20 digs this year.

Ciarra Wirick had a team-high 22 assists, while Jessica Cooper added 17.

Wirick and Cooper have both recorded double-digit assists in all but one match this year, while Wirick (327) has a narrow lead over Cooper (287) for the team lead.

In kills, Kenzie Kleinhenz and Kayla Siefker each added seven apiece, while Aricka LaVoy and Cooper each had one ace.

In digs, LaVoy added 14, which is one off her season-high of 15 in the season opener against Muskegon. It is also her fourth match of double figure digs in the team’s past five matches. Aside from her, Cooper had six digs and Kennedy Geyman had five.

In blocks, Wirick and Kleinhenz each added two blocks to supplement the five from Thomas.

 

Notes

The Express are now 10-10 overall and 4-1 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play. Their next action will be on the road at Sinclair Community College (19-2 overall, 4-1 OCCAC) on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. The Tartan Pride feature the nation’s fourth best kill producer (Jessica Thobe), who is also the nation’s best in hitting percentage (.460).

Thomas is among the nation’s top 15 block producers, while Urbanski is among the nation’s top 20 dig producers.
