The Dowagiac freshmen football team defeated the Brandywine JV team 48-12 to improve to 4-1 on the season.

“Once again this team proved that when you play as a team you can accomplish anything,” Dowagiac coach Chad Perrin said.

Notable offensive performances came from Brad Moran, who scored three touchdowns, Colin Hassle with two touchdowns, including a 77 yarder, Eric Walker one (for 66 yards) and Kyle Thies also added one on a quarterback sneak.

Hector Vazquez added four extra points and Thies threw a 2-point conversion to Kevin Whitaker.

Defensively Moran, Austin Jones and Blake Slabaugh anchored the defense.

“For the fourth straight game the Chieftains flew around the field getting 11 helmets to the ball and caused three fumbles,” Perrin said.

Collin Hassle recovered one and Hunter Ayres recovered the other two.

The Chieftains are at home again Thursday night when they face Paw Paw at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field.
