Niles freshmen edge Maroon Giants

The Niles freshmen football team edged Kalamazoo Central 6-0 to remain undefeated Thursday.

The Vikings (4-0) got their lone score when Cade Stephenson intercepted a pass and returned it 15 yards to set up Jake Hamm’s 2-yard touchdown run.

Quinton  Smith led the Viking offense with 50 yards on nine carries. The Niles defense was led by Tyler Mahar with 10 tackles.

Late in the fourth quarter the Vikings had a goal line stand, ending with Hamm tackling the opponent on the 2-yard line.

Dawson Clemens sealed the victory with an interception with minute left in the game.

Niles hosts St. Joseph Thursday.
