Jorge Ruiz picked up a hat trick, including the final two goals of the match to lift the Dowagiac soccer team to a 5-4 win over visiting Coloma in Wolverine Conference West Division play Wednesday.

Both teams scored three goals in the opening 40 minutes of action, but the Chieftains finally figured out a way to slow down the Comets and outscored them 2-1 in the second half.

“As you can see it was the battle of offenses,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “Coloma had two very strong forwards that were hard to handle. We finally were able to put together good offensive attacks and finish. It was a really good win for us.  he boys worked really hard and finished strong.”
