Dowagiac women hurt in Newberg head-on

CASSOPOLIS — Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his deputies handled a personal-injury crash on M-40 south of Bair Lake Street on Sept. 18 at 4:53 p.m. in Newberg Township.

Kathy Coleman, 50, of Dowagiac, was traveling north on M-40 when she turned west onto Bair Lake Street in front of a vehicle driven by Carla Malone, 46, of Three Rivers.

Malone was southbound on M-40. Malone was struck head-on by Coleman.

Also in the vehicle with Coleman was Lisa Brown, 50, from Dowagiac, and passenger Sean Malone, 40, of Three Rivers.

All were taken to Three Rivers Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Newberg Fire and Ambulance assisted deputies at the scene.

Seat belts were worn by all parties. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
