Officers from the sheriff’s office learned early Friday that an individual wanted on a felony warrant for breaking and entering was driving a stolen vehicle in southwest Berrien County.

Officers saturated the area, Lt. Steve Campbell reported, and spotted the suspect vehicle traveling north on Cleveland Avenue at Elm Valley in Galien.

The vehicle failed to stop and reached speeds of more than 90 mph.

The suspect vehicle took the pursuit off the roadway and onto farm property, crossing several fields and stream. The suspect crashed the vehicle and ran.

The Berrien County sheriff’s canine unit was also part of the pursuit and deployed the dog, which quickly located the individual hiding in thick brush.

The vehicle was confirmed stolen and returned to its owner.

A second stolen vehicle discovered in Lake Township was seized for evidence.

The case was sent to the prosecutor.

The fleeing and eluding police and unlawfully driving away an automobile case was reported at 1:29 a.m. Sept. 13 and resulted in the arrest of Brian Chastain, 27, of Galien.

Bridgman police assisted the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.
