A battle between a pair of Wolverine Conference undefeated teams will highlight the third week of the season.

Dowagiac (2-0) will host Plainwell (2-0) at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field tonight beginning with kickoff at 7 p.m.

The Chieftains have defeated Vicksburg (32-14) and Comstock (54-0).

Defense has been the name of the game once again for Dowagiac.

In its two games, the Chieftains have forced nine turnovers — four fumbles and five interceptions.

Last week against Comstock, Dowagiac’s offense came to life after struggling in the opening game against the Bulldogs.

The Chieftains ran for 226 yards and threw for another 64 as quarterbacks Bryce Dodd and Austin Broda combined to go 6-of-7 with three touchdowns.

Brandon Hatch led the ground game as he rushed for 86 yards on five carries.

The Trojans (2-0) have wins against Coloma (45-0) and Three Rivers (14-7).

In its win over Three Rivers, Plainwell’s defense allowed quarterback Alex Cottingham to run for 105 yards and a score, while he was 11-of-14 for another 93 yards.

A pair of Wildcat turnovers inside the Trojan’s 20-yard line proved to be the difference Friday night.

Ryan Britton ran for 97 yards, while Jacob Geter added 70 for Plainwell. Both scored a touchdown.
