ST. JOSEPH — Berrien County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to a structure fire at 6:01 p.m. Sept. 10 at 4925 Territorial Rd., Bainbridge Township, after a witness reported seeing a subject fleeing the residence after lighting the side of the house on fire.

The home owner was able to extinguish the fire using a garden hose.

Officers secured the scene and a canine search was conducted.

Also responding were North Berrien Fire Department, Watervliet Fire Department and Coloma Township Police Department.

The sheriff’s arson investigator and Detective Bureau are investigating what remains an open case.
