Joseph W. McDuffie, 80, of South Bend, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at the Center for Hospice Care in South Bend.

He was born on June 9, 1933 in South Bend to the late Charles and Sylvia (Kessler) McDuffie.

After graduating from high school, Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded several accommodations including the Korean Service Medal with three stars, the UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. On Nov. 12, 1955 Joseph married the love of his life Judith C. Rand.

Joseph was employed by the Teamsters Local 364 and was a driver for them for many years. Joseph also had a passion for golfing, gardening and spending time on his boat. His greatest love was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Judith “Judy” McDuffie of South Bend, two daughters Sheri (John) Thomas of Mishawaka and Julie McMahon of Cincinnati, Ohio, a son Jonathan McDuffie of Rotonda West, Florida, two grandchildren Caira Brinker of Mishawaka and Thomas McMahon of Cincinnati, two great-grandchildren Hannah and Taylor Brinker, and three sisters; Alice Hoffman and Marilyn McDuffie both of California and Sue Ellen Griffin of Arizona.

A time of visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Monday, September 9, 2013 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.  Funeral services will be on Monday evening at 7:00pm at Brown Funeral Home with a private committal being held in Remington, Indiana on Tuesday.
