Homes sales rise 160 percent in Edwardsburg-Cass market

Housing sales in the Edwardsburg-Cassopolis market jumped 160 percent in August compared to last year according to the Southwestern Michigan Association of Realtors.

In August, 39 homes were sold compared to just 15 homes in 2012. So far in 2013, 176 homes have been sold compared to 157 last year, a jump of 12 percent.

The average home stayed on the market for 107 days in August, compared to 160 days last year for a drop of 33 percent. For the year, the drop in number of days is down just three percent.

Despite crisp sales and fewer days on the market, the number of homes up for sale in the Edwardsburg-Cassopolis area has steadily risen in 2013.

In January, there were just 199 homes actively listed. That number rose to 264 in August.
