COMSTOCK – While the offense got on track against Comstock Friday night, it was still the Dowagiac defense leading the way.

Dowagiac (2-0) scored 23 first quarter points en route to a 54-0 Wolverine Conference non-divisional victory.

The Chieftain defense held the Colts to minus 14 yards rushing and 54 yards in total offense while scoring three touchdowns and recording a safety.

Dowagiac offensively rushed for 226 yards and threw for another 64 as quarterbacks Bryce Drew and Austin Broda combined to go 6-of-8 with three touchdowns.

Dodd connected with Brody Froehlich for the game’s opening score and then hit Davion Highsmith with the second of his two touchdowns. Broda also connected with Highsmith on a 19-yard touchdown on his only pass of the night.

Aaron Adams rushed for a touchdown and recovered a fumble for a score, while Zach Williams returned an interception 34 yards. Tristan Howard picked up the safety.

After having no placekicker the opening week of the season, Xavier Marquart connected on four extra points and kicked a 30-yard field goal. Broda also hit three extra points.

The Chieftains return home Friday night to host Plainwell.
