Chieftain freshmen, JV football teams win

The Dowagiac freshmen and JV football teams were both victorious Thursday night.

The Chieftain freshmen team defeated Otsego 48-6, while the JV team blanked Comstock 52-0.

 

Freshmen football

Eric Walker started things off for the Chieftains by scoring a 61-yard touchdown on the opening play and Hunter Ayers added the two-point conversion.

Offensively Walker had three touchdowns, Colin Hassle had a pair of touchdowns and Shawn Sirk one.

Kyle Thies hit Mac Charles with a 28-yard touchdown pass.

“Defensively everyone played well,” Dowagiac coach Chad Perrin said. “Mac Charles, Brad Moran and Zac Checkley all had fumble recoveries and Hector Vazquez had an interception.”

Dowagiac travels to Plainwell Thursday night.

 

JV football

A 28-point second quarter turned the game into a rout Thursday.

Dowagiac led 12-0 after one quarter and 40-0 by halftime. The Chieftains added a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. Most of the second half was played with a running clock.

Jacob Davis rushed for 102 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns for Dowagiac, which also got 68 yards from Nate Ward. Scott Hassle scored a pair of touchdowns, while Ronnie Payne, Nate Tackitt and Anthony Neubaur also scored.

Hassle was 4-of-7 for 124 yards. Hassle, Josh Lamphere and Tackitt led the defense with four tackles each.
