Cooper leads Owens Tech to Sunday sweep

TOLEDO, OH – Jessica Cooper had a solid all-around day as the No. 4 Express women’s volleyball team swept both of their opponents on the final day of the Owens Invitational.

In Sunday’s first match, Cooper (Brandywine) finished second on the team in assists with 15, while adding 11 digs, which was also second on the team.

Stephanie Kipp had a team-high 11 kills, while Jazmine Thomas (8) and Tiffani Hobbs (5) also contributed in that category.

Ciarra Wirick was the team leader in assists with 15. Between her and Cooper, they had 31 of the team’s 35 assists.

Lisa Urbanski led the team with 14 digs, while Wirick added 10. Aricka LaVoy (6) and Dominique Yates (2) led the way in aces.

Hobbs (5), Thomas (4) and Yates (3) led the team in blocks.

Cooper led the team in assists (17) and aces (4) in this afternoon’s second match against McHenry County.

Kipp added a team-high seven kills, while Thomas (5), Yates (5) andBailey Dangler (4) also pitched in. Wirick was second on the team in assists with 12.

Aside from Cooper’s four aces, Yates also had four of the team’s 11 total. Urbanski was the lone player in double figure digs with 11.

Yates and Kenzie Kleinhenz each had three blocks.

The Express, who are now 4-6 overall, have won three straight matches in straight sets.

They finished 4-2 in the three-day Owens.
