Joseph Shemiot, 65, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at New Orchard Grove Nursing Home in Benton Harbor.

He was born on July 30, 1948, in New York to the late Anthony and Lynn (Hickok) Shemiot.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son Tony Shemiot.
Joseph is survived by: his wife, Rose (Wegner) Shemiot, three sons; John Paul Shemiot of Dowagiac, Charley Shemiot of Detroit and Bod Shemiot of Detroit; and a sister, Michelle Shemiot of Ann Arbor.
He enjoyed playing chess, spending time on his sail boat on Lake Michigan and going to Las Vegas to gamble.
In keeping with Joseph’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.
