Debra June Ashley, 57, of Dowagiac, passed away in her home Aug. 11, 2013.

She was born Dec. 20, 1955, in Sturgis, to Marvel and Caroline (McKale) VanNuys.

Debra grew up in the Mennonite Church, and also attended the Apostolic Lighthouse Church.

She was a caregiver for L.A.D.D in Dowagiac.

Debra enjoyed watching movies, reading and hunting in her early days.

She is survived by: her husband, Ross Ashley, of Dowagiac; her son, Andrew Ostrowski, of Dowagiac; Andrew’s father, Jerry Ostrowski, of Dowagiac; two stepchildren, Tyler and Joselyn Ashley, both of Dowagiac; a sister, Joyce Pipier, of Elkhart, Ind.; a brother, Jim VanNuys of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents.

Her funeral service will be Friday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. at Moorepark Cemetery, Three Rivers.
