RICHLAND — The Niles varsity volleyball team went 4-1 at the Gull Lake Invitational Friday.

The Vikings defeated Battle Creek Lakeview (2-0), Vicksburg (2-0), Kalamazoo Loy Norrix (2-0) and Schoolcraft (2-0) in pool play.

In Gold Division single elimination play, Niles was defeated by Lakeview 2-1.

“I was extremely pleased and excited about the outcome of our opening day,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “The girls exceeded my expectations and we are fired up to move forward.”

BATTLE CREEK — The Buchanan volleyball team went 4-1 at the Battle Creek St. Philip Tournament Saturday.

The Bucks defeated Quincy (2-0), Leeland (2-0), Camfront (2-0) and Union City (2-0) in pool and power play.

In the Gold Pool it was defeated by perennial powerhouse and host St. Philip 25-18 and 25-23.
