Two teens blamed for golf course fire

Investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office determined two 15-year-old juveniles are responsible for the Hampshire Country Club fire which destroyed the golf cart building and more than 100 carts and damaged the clubhouse.

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. announced Thursday evening that petitions are being filed against the youths in Cass County Juvenile Court.

A sheriff’s deputy came upon the fire at the golf course on Pokagon Highway about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 21.

Pokagon Township Fire Department responded and put the fire out.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Michigan State Police fire marshal and the Pokagon department in investigating its cause.
