BERRIEN SPRINGS — It didn’t take long for a Buchanan boy and his goat, R.T., to make a big splash at the Berrien County Youth Fair.

Christian Dinges, of Red Bud Goat Club, finished first in the young junior dairy goat showmanship category on the opening morning of the fair Monday in the show arena.

It was the nine-year-old’s best finish in four years of showing animals at the fair.

Dinges then moved on to the overall goat showmanship competition later that morning, but finished out of the top two.

In that competition, first place went to fair veteran Madalyn Reneberg, also of Red Bud Goat Club. Reneberg, 17, said it was her first ever showmanship win in 13 years showing at the fair.

“I think I was more prepared this year,” said Reneberg, of Berrien Center.

Overall showman runnerup went to Micah Peppel.

The Berrien County Fair continues Tuesday and runs through Saturday.
