Erzsébet Vesei, age 87 years of Niles, Mich., died at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at West Woods of Niles following an extended illness.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1925 in Gyirmot, Hungary to Bela and Brigitta (Szabo) Varga, and completed school in Hungary (the U.S. equivalent of high school graduation). She came to the United States in 1956, settling in South Bend, Ind., for a year before moving to Niles.

Elizabeth was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles, and its Altar-Rosary Society. She was a talented seamstress, and her greatest interest was caring for her family.

On Aug. 31, 1957 at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in South Bend she married Laszlo M. Vesei with whom she celebrated last year the fifty-fifth anniversary of their wedding.

Surviving family includes her husband, Laszlo Vesei, and their children, Brigitta Vesei of Appleton, Wisc., Julia (and Gabe) Vesei-Pompe of Shrub Oak, N.Y., Joseph C. Vesei of Niles, and Charles P. (and Erzsébet) Vesei of Strongsville, Ohio; and grandchildren, Sarena Pompe, Vince Vesei, Sofia Vesei, Lehel Somogy, Csaba Somogy, and Hajnal Somogy.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mariska Boehm, Helen Nemeth, Karcsi Varga, and Bela Varga.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Erzsébet Vesei will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. David Otto of the parish. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Erzsébet may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.
