Brandywine 8U All-Stars top Howard Red

The Brandywine 8U All-Stars went 6-1 over the weekend to capture the Cal Ripken Michigan State Championship at Firemen’s Park.

Brandywine defeated Howard Red 10-4 in the championship game Sunday.

A seven-run third inning proved to be the difference for the All-Stars. Howard Red led 4-0 heading into the third.

In the semifinals, Brandywine defeated L’Anse Creuse North 17-6.

The All-Stars scored six runs in the second and seven runs in the fourth inning to account for its runs.

In pool play, Howard Red defeated Brandywine 9-8 in the opening game of the tournament.

The All-Stars rebounded with a 12-3 win over L’Anse Creuse North, a 19-3 win over Clinton Valley, a 13-3 win over Huron Valley and a 8-0 win over Niles F.O.P.

The Brandywine 8U All-Stars will now travel to Vincennes, Ind.

The weekend will begin July 24 with a picnic and skills competition for players, managers, coaches and families.

Pool play will begin at 5 p.m. July 25. Opening ceremonies will be held at 7:45 p.m. July 26.
