Dowagiac Public Safety Director Steven Grinnewald reports that on Saturday, July 13, at approximately 11:15 p.m., his officers were called to investigate an assault and possible home invasion.

The victim reported to officers that she and a friend were at her residence in the 600 block of Spruce Street when a former acquaintance came to her home.

The former acquaintance, a 22-year-old Dowagiac resident, became involved in an argument with the victim while at the front door.

During the argument, the 22-year-old suspect managed to enter the home without the consent of the victim. The suspect then argued with the second subject at the residence.

The suspect entered the kitchen area and obtained a large kitchen knife. He then threatened the second subject with the knife. That subject fled the residence. The home owner was able to convince the suspect to leave.

While officers were still at the scene conducting their investigation, the suspect returned to the scene. He was then taken into custody. The suspect was lodged at the Cass County Jail on charges of home invasion, first degree, and felonious assault. Police withheld his name pending arraignment. Neither victim was physically injured in this incident, which remains under investigation.

Grinnewald asks anyone with additional information regarding this case to contact Dowagiac Police Department at (269) 782-9743.
