Thomas Trout and Kim Albin captured the overall male and female titles at the inaugural Diamond Lake Triathlon Saturday morning.

Trout posted a time of 55:53.6 as he completed the 500-yard swim in a time of 6:27.3, the 12-mile bike ride in 29:33.6 and the 3.1-mile run in 18:57.6.

D.J. Hanback finished third with a time of 56:36:3 and Jim Hansen third with a time of 57:52.0.

Albin posted a time of 1:07:22.3. She completed the swim with a time of 8:20.7, the bike ride in 33:23.6 and the run in 23:45.1.

Sarah Opdycke was second with an overall time of 1:07:27.1 and Tabitha Sherwood third with a time of 1:09:06.6.

Opdycke came out of the water first as she had a time of 7:32.9, but Albin was able to overtake her on the bike as she finished almost two minutes ahead of her (33:23.6-35:05.9). Opdycke was able to make up some of that time on the race course, but couldn’t overcome the deficit.

A total of 134 runners took part in the first event, which was run in honor of Alex

Stscherban, a local triathlete who suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after completing

the Eagle Lake Triathlon last year.

Money raised from the Diamond Lake Triathlon will be used to help offset the medical bills resulting from his recovery.
