Robert Latimer, 87, long time resident of Niles Township, passed away peacefully on June 24 in Madera, Calif.

Bob was born in Galena, Ill., on July 13, 1925 and grew up in South Bend, Ind. He served as a Marine in both WWII and Korea, earning two citations and a Purple Heart. Bob was a welder and steel worker by trade working two jobs most of his life in order to support his family.
Still, he has spent time with the grandchildren, shopped with his wife, rooted for the Cubs and played golf. He is survived by his sons, Larry and Kenneth Latimer, and their families. His wife, Midge, died in 2000. Bob’s work ethic and devotion to family, community and country exemplify what it was like to be part of the Greatest Generation.
