Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports deputies handled a hit-and-run car/pedestrian crash on Sunday at 5:50 p.m. on Kamp Kozy Street near Wilson Street in LaGrange Township.

Michael Toffler, 13, of Ohio, stated he was on his bike near the side of the road when an unknown red pickup truck came around the corner at a high rate of speed.

He said he hit his head but was not sure if the injury was because the car actually hit him or caused him to fall off of his bike causing him to hit his head.

He said the vehicle then left in an unknown direction.

Michael was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

He was transported to Lakeland Niles for treatment of his injuries.

Life Care Ambulance, Cassopolis Village Police and Cass County Marine Division assisted deputies on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
