Jerry Akey, 68, of Niles, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at his residence with his family by his side.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and are currently pending.

Jerry Akey was born on May 1, 1945, in Niles to the late Donald and Leona (Huttenstine) Akey

On Feb. 6, 1965, Jerry married the love of his life, Karol (Freeze) Akey, at a ceremony in Sumnerville.

Jerry is survived by his wife; two sons, Rodney (Jaymie) Akey, of Niles, Scott (Amy) Akey, of California; two daughters, Debra Fox-Akey, of Bridgman, and  Stephanie Akey, of Niles; three grandchildren; and a brother, Jim (Brenda) Akey, of Niles.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing but, most of all, spending time with his family and friends and just enjoying retirement.

In keeping with the families wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private service held at a later date.
