CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating a single-vehicle crash which occurred on Bertrand Street near Batchelor Road in Milton Township around 5:14 a.m. May 31.

 

Emergency personnel were called to the crash scene after one of two occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash was able to get out and call for help.  

 

Niles Township fire and SMCAS ambulance responded to the crash site along with the sheriff’s office.  

 

The two occupants were checked by SMCAS and one, Landon VanWinkle, 18, of Niles, was transported for treatment at Lakeland Hospital, Niles.  

 

The second occupant, Terrin Norris, 17, of Niles, was turned over to family to seek treatment.
Initial investigation shows the vehicle was eastbound on Bertrand when it lost control, spun and struck a tree.

 

Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
