Jean Margaret Garrison, 87, of Niles, died on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 3:30 a.m. following an extended illness, with her family by her side.
Jean was born to Harvey W. and Virginia May Huffman in Sumner, Iowa, on Jan. 12, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Robert W. Brooks.
She is survived by her sister, Lola (Al) Risser, of Columbus, Ohio; children, Stephanie (Don) Stone of Niles, Claudia (Tim) Hillary, of Point Arena, Calif., and Joel Brooks of Niles; grandchildren, Shelly (Mike) Hessey, Steve (Angelecque) Thornton, Cathy Hillary, Karen Hillary, Brian Hillary, Matt Brooks and Jason Brooks; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Jean volunteered with Area Aging Agency at Brentwood Assisted Living in Niles. She enjoyed painting, reading, cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her dogs. No few words can summarize the lady that Jean was, and she will be greatly missed.
Per Jean’s request, cremation will take place.
Contributions in memory of Jean may be made to the Niles District Library, or to the Berrien County Animal Shelter.
