Doris Ruth Loupee, 88, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Friday, May 24, 2013, in her residence.

Doris was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Dowagiac, to Floyd and Lola (Franklin) Hunsberger.

 

She married Charles Oscar Loupee July 5, 1952, in Cassopolis. Her husband preceded her in

 

death in 1971. She was also preceded by her parents; one sister, Patricia Raiford; and two brothers, Jerry Hunsberger and Ronnie Hunsberger. 

 

Doris was passionate about her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Whether hosting holiday meals or participating in family vacations at Boyne

 

Mountain, she was at her most content surrounded by family. 

 

Doris had a great group of extended friends who surrounded and supported her and her children

 

after the passing of her husband. 

 

Over the years, she enjoyed golf, bridge, bowling and dance club with her friends. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, listening to music and crossword puzzles. 

 

Doris was active in United Presbyterian Church, Cassopolis, where she served in a variety of capacities.

 

In 1971, upon the passing of her husband, Doris took over running the day-to-day operations of the

 

Family-owned business, Service Oil Co., as well as raising her five children. She retired in 1987 after selling the business to her son, John.

 

Doris will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by: two daughters, Sara Ann

 

(Larry) Park of Cassopolis and Charlene (Tim) Hill of Grand Rapids; three sons, John (Wendy) Loupee of Edwardsburg, Jim (Kelly) Loupee of Granger and Jeff (Dawn Hammer) Loupee of Granger; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Cox of Vandalia and Marianne (E.J.) Gould of LaGrange, Ind.; one brother, Bob Hunsberger of Dowagiac; and a great many nieces and nephews.

 

Family and friends will gather from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 3p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, with the Rev. Stephen Kaszar officiating. 

 

Doris will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Charles, in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Cassopolis.
